Social Coffee
Coffee is the second most traded commodity in the world. The coffee industry supports more people than any other single product in the world. Coffee is a product that people feel emotional about. They wake up in the morning searching for it. We meet over a cup of coffee for business reasons and personal interactions. We love the smell, the flavor, the story, and the social environment that it brings. Enthusiasts love all of the various methods of brewing and flavor extraction. Some us love the slightly pretentious atmosphere of a coffee house. In fact, you can sit in a coffee house and people watch for hours. Business men rushing in and out. The mostly broke student nursing the same cup for hours in order to have access to wifi. The mom just looking for a moment of peace and quiet with a nice cappuccino. I guess what I am trying to say is this… You can tell a lot about a person based on their coffee habits. The coffee industry has done a very good job of capitalizing on this fact. Some coffee comes with certifications that say that it is harvested in an environmentally safe way. Some come with certifications that say that it is “fair.” And, it is not uncommon for coffee companies to use their success and popularity to make social statements and to take political stances. With this in mind, I am going to dare to ask a pointed question. What do your coffee habits say about you? Are you in a rush or just seeking a moment of peace and quiet? But more importantly, what does your coffee purchase empower? Does it promote companies to create meaningless certifications that do nothing substantial to help the environment or create “fairness?” Do your purchases empower companies to pursue political and social agendas far from the beliefs that you hold dear?I do want to be clear here. I want you to buy our coffee. This article is an appeal to your conscience and to that part of you that wants to be part of something bigger and better. Your purchase means something. It means a lot to us. Your purchase helps us empower communities. In fact, it helps them empower themselves to make communities better and stronger and focused on the power of the Gospel. Our coffee has a political agenda. That agenda is not about flag waving or political parties, it is about serving the One True King! Our coffee is not about fairness, it is about righteousness. Our coffee is not about the environment, it is about the stewardship of all of God’s gifts. Our work is not about money, it is about people. Our company is not about work, it is about worship.Kingdom Growers is about relationship.Join in…D.
