What's In A Roast
Roasting coffee seems like a simple concept. When you begin to spend time with a specialty coffee, you quickly realize that there is more to it than just putting beans in a roaster and turning it on for a certain period of time. Skilled roasters carefully craft roast profiles to extract the best possible flavors of each coffee bean. Beans and their flavor vary greatly, based on origins, altitude, weather, soil chemistry, plant variety, the way the bean is picked, processed, and even the conditions in which they are stored.Kingdom Growers Coffee is not simply coffee. It is great coffee. Quality roasting is part of being great stewards of this product. We are so proud of our roasts and each one meets the wants of particular coffee enthusiasts. If you are a Dark coffee drinker or frequent the big box giants, then you will probably prefer our Vienna Roast. One of my best friends, who is not a specialty coffee enthusiast, describes our Vienna by comparing it to a perfectly cooked, medium-well steak, perfectly seared on the outside, with just the right amount of pink in the middle. (Coffee snobs are sighing and shaking their heads at this metaphor right now). By roasting the outside of the bean to a dark roast and leaving the center of the bean lighter, we get the rich, deep, dark flavor without destroying the subtle flavors of coffee. If you are a true a coffee snob or a snob in development and want to taste all of the flavor nuances a coffee origin has to offer, then you will enjoy our Full Flavor Roast. In steak terms, it is a medium rare perfection. Our coffee from Honduras has wonderful notes of chocolate and nuttiness. Also, I would be missing a major selling point not to include the fact that lighter roasts have more caffeine. The longer you roast, the more essential oils of the coffee are sent up the exhaust. When we first started this endeavor, I knew that the market would demand the darker roasts and sure enough it has. However, to my amazement, over the past few weeks we are seeing more and more converts to the Full Flavor Roast. If you always drink Dark Roast give our Full Flavor a try.You won’t be disappointed.D.
