Church Spotlight: The First Baptist Church of Plant City, Florida
When you want to see the Gospel spread throughout the nations, take a moment to drink some coffee. That’s what First Baptist Church of Plant City, Florida, encourages each Sunday. This is a church that focuses on others, ministering to people in the local community and around the world. The website says the congregation “desires to create an environment where all people have their needs met and their lives touched by the love of Christ.”That’s where our coffee fits in. Along with operating various outreach projects—such as domestic and international mission trips, work involving a local pregnancy care center, support for Florida Baptist Children’s Homes, and more—FBC Plant City includes Kingdom Growers “promo packs” in visitor gift bags.“We were looking for a way to honor them [guests] while at the same time showing them that we support missions anyway we can,” Adam Cunningham, minister of missions and assimilation, explains. The more coffee the church gives, the more Kingdom Growers coffee cooperatives flourish, providing more stability for farmers in Honduras and Sumatra. And as coffee cooperatives grow, International Mission Board missionaries can use them as platforms for spreading Christ’s message.“Everyone loves coffee, and KG is one of our favorites,” Cunningham says. “Knowing that there’s a story behind each bag, one that supports local growers, provides a platform, and allows the Gospel to be shared is awesome!”So, if you’re ever in Plant City on a Sunday, stop by the First Baptist Church, grab a bag of the church’s favorite flavor—Salted Caramel—and stay for a service. You’ll get to know a group of people who have great taste in coffee and who want to see the name of Jesus proclaimed in every corner of the world.Through Kingdom Growers, FBC Plant City has found a way to combine these interests.
